MOSTERT 6TH IN SUPERCARS CHAMPIONSHIP
Race 30 – Position 21
Mostert began his track time in Newcastle P4 and P13 overall on a blustery day that saw wind gusts reach 50 km/h, throwing sand and debris across the circuit during the day.
Mostert had a great start to his Race but spun into the Turn 1 tyres on Lap 62 while running P3, ending his chances at a decent result.
Thanks to the quick work of the Supercheap Auto Tickford Racing team Mostert was able to get out on track to salvage a P21 result.
I’M GUTTED, THAT WAS A TOUGH DAY. WE DIDN’T HAVE THAT GREAT OF A CAR BUT WERE MAKING SOME GAINS IN THE RACE AND COULD HAVE HAD AN OKAY FINISH. WE WERE RUNNING THIRD AND I JUST MADE A MISTAKE INTO TURN 1 AND BACKED IT IN THE FENCE. I’M REALLY DISAPPOINTED FOR THE BOYS, THEY’VE GOT A LONG NIGHT AHEAD AFTER THAT.”
Race 31 – Position 7
Mostert qualified P14 for Sunday’s Race after struggling with the qualifying car the day prior.
Mostert kept it clean throughout the Race despite spending the majority of the Race in battle packs, finishing P7 in Race 31 after 95 laps for the final race of the 2018 season.
Leading the Tickford Racing team for a vast majority of the season, Mostert finishes 6th in the 2018 Supercars Championship.
WE HAD A GOOD STRATEGY THANKS TO ADAM THAT HELPED US GET TRACK POSITION, AND THE CAR WAS ALL RIGHT ENOUGH SO THAT WE COULD STAY IN THE TEN AND COME BACK SEVENTH. NOT THE BEST DAY, BUT IN SAYING THAT WE’VE HAD MUCH WORSE. IT WAS A VERY TOUGH YEAR FOR US, BUT WE CAME BACK SIXTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THIRD IN THE TEAMS’, SO YOU TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE BAD. I WISH WE COULD HAVE ENDED THE YEAR A LITTLE BETTER, BUT IT JUST MAKES YOU WANT TO START THE NEXT YEAR BETTER.”
Mostert will now prepare for the 2019 Supercars Championship.
