MOSTERT ACHIEVES BREAKTHROUGH P5 FINISH AT TOWNSVILLE
Race 17 – Position 13
Mostert qualified P17 for Saturday’s Race but flew through the field at the beginning of the race and was on for a potential top ten, when his race was impaired on Lap 42 when Winterbottom suffered a broken tyre chord late in the lap forcing an unscheduled entry to pit lane.
The Supercheap Auto Driver was scheduled to pit that lap and as a result, Mostert was forced to double stack in pit lane, costing a valuable ten seconds.
Mostert fought back to P13 at the chequered flag, while also claiming the fastest lap of the race.
Race 18 – Position 5
Mostert qualified P12 for Sunday’s 70 Lap Race, coming up agonizingly short of a turn in the Top Ten shoot-out.
Despite starting from the 6th Row, Mostert was able to climb through the field with great pace and finish in P5, a result he was hoping to improve on in the final laps but was unable to do so under Safety Car.
The result was Mostert’s first top five since Race 9 of the season at Phillip Island, and his fourth top five of 2018.
“I’M HAPPY TO GET A RESULT TODAY. SATURDAY’S DOUBLE STACK REALLY BUMMED ME OUT. THAT WAS A REAL KICK IN THE NUTS, BUT OVERALL, GOOD TO GIVE THE GUYS A TOP FIVE RESULT. IT HAS BEEN PRETTY LOW TIMES, SO TO GET A TOP FIVE I’M HAPPY FOR THE GUYS.”
Mostert will now prepare for Round 9 of the Supercars Championship, the Ipswich SuperSprint, on July 20 – 22.
