MOSTERT FINISHES P5 UNDER LIGHTS

Race 21 – Position 5

Mostert topped Friday night’s Practice session, with the tiered qualifying format mean that the No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Falcon FG X went directly into Qualifying 2, where Mostert also advanced to the final session and finished P7.

Under the lights at Sydney Motorsport Park, Mostert had a great start to the 77-lap race fighting for a podium and holding his ground in the top 5 throughout the 300km race.

Mostert fought until the end of the race to claim a P5 finish, his seventh top five of 2018 and fourth consecutive top-six finish.

Mostert has now moved from 8th into 7th in the Supercars Championship Standings.

“IT WAS A CRAZY RACE, BUT A GOOD RESULT FOR US. ANYTIME YOU GET A TOP FIVE IN THIS CHAMPIONSHIP IT MEANS YOU’RE RUNNING RIGHT AT THE POINTY END. DEFINITELY GOOD TO RUN WITH THE FRONT GUYS, IT’S THE SAME THING AS QR, IT’S GOOD TO RUN WITH THEM BECAUSE YOU CAN FIND WHAT YOUR WEAKNESSES AND WHAT YOUR STRENGTHS ARE. IT’S ANOTHER GOOD EVENT UNDER OUR BELTS, QUALIFYING DIDN’T QUITE GO TO PLAN FOR US, WE SHOULD BE A BIT FURTHER TO THE FRONT, BUT FIFTH’S A GOOD RESULT. THE BOYS DID A GOOD JOB, STRATEGY WAS TOUGH OUT THERE, BIG FIELD SPREAD AS WELL, SO WE JUST DID WHAT WE COULD.”

Mostert will now prepare for Round 11 of the Supercars Championship, the OTR SuperSprint at the Bend Raceway on August 24-26.
