Supercars Championship Round 4, Sydney SuperSprint

Mostert 3rd in Championship after second Sydney stop! šŸ

Chaz Mostert has finished P5, P9 & P11 in Races 10, 11 & 12 at the Sydney SuperSprint.

Race 10Ā – Position 11Ā šŸ

With two compounds of tyre on offer, but not enough soft tyres for all three races, strategy was a deciding factor in Mostert’s weekend, as the Team opted to take some pain on Saturday, with an eye on the Sunday races.

Mostert advancedĀ to the Top-15 shootout without using a set of the softs and continued with the hard tyre strategy, putting him in P13, the first on the hard tyre.

The Number 25 ran the hard compound tyre for all 32-laps at Sydney Motorsport Park under lights, but against others on soft tyres,Ā MostertĀ didn’t get the start he wanted andĀ dropped back to P17.

Mostert was caught in traffic and ran long before taking his stop, and after rejoining was able to find his way into P11.

ā€œPretty crazy race, I didn’t quite get the start I wanted, but I trucked along during the race.Ā The car had pretty good tyre life, but I struggled with racing pace to get past the cars around me.Ā We stuck to our strategy with what we planned to do, so overall I’m pretty happy with P11 considering what we did.”

Race 11Ā – Position 5Ā šŸ

Back-to-back 10-minute sessions meant that it was a one-lap dash in both and MostertĀ ended up P6Ā and P8Ā with his two run.

Mostert againĀ started on the hard tyre, which meant a little bit of pain early as the soft-tyre starters forced their way through, but once settled, the Number 25 was the quickest car on hard tyres.

Mostert put a fresh set of soft tyres onĀ and went from P11 to P5, fighting a last lap battle where he nearly snatched a podium finish.

Race 12 – Position 9 šŸ

In the final race of the weekend, Mostert againĀ started on the hard tyre, but still put in some fantastic lap times to be inside the top-10 when he stopped at the half way point.

From there, MostertĀ put pressure on Whincup in the closing stages, before crossing the line in P9, which put him fifth overall in the weekend points.

ā€œWe had a good pretty weekend in terms of points and definitely learnt a few things that we will try next round. To be honest I’m still pretty proud to come away in the top-five weekend points, and third in the championship. We will keep accumulating those points, keep learning about our car and make it stronger each round!ā€

Mostert will now prepare for Round 5Ā of the 2020 Supercars Championship, which will be held in Darwin on August 8-9.
